My intention, when responding to this beautiful landscape, is to push beyond the representational and to explore “the spirit of the place” – a poetic and personal vision of the elemental landscape.
My creative work requires an openness and a willingness to allow a painting to develop from the simple flow of the paint. The early stages involve a degree of risk, in that one has to, firstly, let the paint flow and, secondly, learn to accommodate the colours, shapes and textures. My sketchbook work is a vital part of the process enabling the early developmental stage to move forward.
The relationship between colour, shapes and texture creates it’s own dialogue and unity. The ultimate aim being to make a piece of work that has it’s own identity – a distillation of my experiences of the Suffolk landscape”.
