I have been painting for 25 years, starting in watercolour and now doing more work in mixed media, combining watercolour, gouache, ink and pastel, and acrylic painting on canvas, board and paper.
I paint mostly landscapes, enjoying coastal subjects, townscapes, rugged country and ancient buildings, inspired by colour and form created by changing, dramatic light on the landscape and atmospheric ambience. My style is loose and suggestive, textured and layered, just offering enough information to encourage exploration of the subject matter.
I exhibit regularly in galleries in England and Scotland, and have shown on numerous occasions locally with Dorking Group of Artists and in both The Mall Galleries and Bankside Gallery with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, being awarded the F. Donald Blake award for a contemporary painting in 2006 and the Matt Bruce award at the RI in 2007. I have also shown on a number of occasions with The Royal Watercolour Society.
I run my own painting classes and also painting holidays in the UK and Greece and give lively painting demonstrations to Art groups and societies.
I live in Dorking, a father of three, and when time allows play guitar and harmonica in a rock band.
